Learn about and find non-animal methods

Animalfree Research has been promoting non-animal research since 1976. Over the years, other institutions in Switzerland and internationally have joined in to do the same. Thus, over the decades, a considerable body of non-animal methods (alternative methods to animal experimentation) has emerged.

Animalfree Research is committed to non-animal research and the application of animal-free methods and models.

In order to make it easier for researchers, students and interested parties to gain an overview of existing in vitro and in silico methods and models, numerous databases, guides and learning platforms have been developed. You will find a non-exhaustive list here:

ABCD (AntiBodies Chemically Defined) database

A database of the Geneva Antibody Facility of the University of Geneva, which promotes the widespread use of recombinant antibodies by academic researchers and thus the replacement of antibodies produced in animal experiments.

NAT database

Contains information on modern, non-animal technologies from various areas of biomedicine and life sciences, based on scientific publications and studies.

EURL ECVAM Guide to good search practice for animal alternatives

Introduces databases and search strategies that enable targeted searches for 3R methods.

3Rs Principles in Wildlife Research

Provides information on the 3Rs principles of animal use and guidance on their application in wildlife research. Animalfree Reseach supports the further development and maintenance of the platform, which is specifically aimed at wildlife biologists, ecologists and conservation managers.

Joint Research Centre Data Catalogue

The inventory of 3Rs knowledge sources was compiled by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre. It provides access to multidisciplinary data.

3Rs InfoHub

A learning platform for students and scientists on non-animal research and current 3R topics.

Norecopa database

The 3Rs Guide provides an overview of guidelines, databases, journals, email lists, regulations and policies that can help researchers implement the 3Rs principles when planning research involving animals.

InterNICHE

The platform is dedicated to alternative methods to animal testing and studies on them that are used in the field of education.
